Good morning Southside. Our daily devotional for today comes from Isaiah 2:2-4:

“In the last days, the mountain of the LORD’s house will be the highest of all— the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship. (3) People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of Jacob’s God. There He will teach us His ways, and we will walk in His paths.” For the LORD’s teaching will go out from Zion; His word will go out from Jerusalem. (4) The LORD will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore” (NLT).

When we read this passage, it brings us hope of a future day when God will eradicate all sin, evil and restore this planet and us to the way we were supposed to be in the beginning. It is impossible for us to imagine life without sin, wars, murder, rape, theft, divorce and etc. We long for it but most people are realists. They see life as it is but in the back of their minds or in the deep parts of their hearts, they hold out with hope.

The problem with most people, even God’s people, is their stability is not grounded in God alone, but in our pleasant surroundings. So, this raises an important question: have we labored so hard only to create our own vulnerability? Since 911, every day we live in the fear of outside terrorist attacks on and in America. And if it is not from outside, we fear some radical group in our own country will attempt to reveal how vulnerable we are (5 Men Seek To Attack the 250th UFC). This was just recently thwarted by our own FBI.

Our Isaiah passage helps us with this. Isaiah reveals that the key is not just what we believe, but what we value. Isaiah’s prophetic eyes looked beyond his present day to a day when God would fix this world once and for all. This helps us live in the here and now because our present situation according to Isaiah is not dependent on what is happening now, but what will happen in the future. It is not that Isaiah ignores or is unimpacted by his current world citation, because he is. For Isaiah, he chose not to let that control him, create fear in him, dictate his response and cause him to question the Lord. Isaiah knew that in the end, the Lord would have the last word.

The point of Isaiah telling us what is going to happen in the future is to give us an invitation to be part of it. If we really believe God is in control. God is sovereign and that God will fix us and this world, then we trust Him to do it. We have God’s word and is that enough? There are some who believe we are living in the last days due to “signs” in Scripture that are being fulfilled. It is very possible we are, but even if Jesus is not going to return in our lifetime, what should be our response? The same as Christians in every generation – we love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ no matter what our situations or circumstances are.

Reflection Assignment: What to you is most challenging as you wait on Jesus to return? If your situation gets worse and Jesus does not return in your lifetime, how will you respond to this? When the Lord resets everything one day, what will be the best blessing from that for you and why?

Scripture To Meditate On: Revelation 21:3-5a,”I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. (4) He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (5)  And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” (NLT).

Prayer To Pray: “Thank You Jesus that one day You are going to make everything right. Until then, I will trust You for the when of this, and the how of this and the means of this. You do not lie. Thank You for a future all of Your children can look forward to in faith. I love You Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”

I love you Southside! – Pastor Kelly
