Good morning Southside. Today, devotional comes from the Book of Psalms, specifically, Psalms 47:1-3:
“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! (2) For the LORD Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. (3) He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet” (NLT).
Today’s daily devotional reminds us how celebrative in worship in both attitude and action. If you go to the average church, just look around at how people “worship.” It really has nothing to do with the style of music, even though some say it is. Worship is an attitude of the heart first. The church may sing hymns or contemporary of both, but watch how involved the people are. Some are on their phones. Some are talking to others. Some, if they do sing, sing as if their best friend just died. It is rare to see people clapping their hands and praising the Lord with all their hearts.
Yesterday was the 4th of July. Many who attend church went to watch fireworks displays. They probably got more excited about that than in praising the Lord the next day in worship. Why? Why do fireworks displays get more enthusiasm from us than the Lord? Why does watching our favorite sports teams get more enthusiasm and involvement from us than the Lord? Is it because after all He has done for us, He does not deserve it?
So many people who call themselves Christians want salvation, but not the Savior. They want and will celebrate everything else with enthusiasm but the Lord. Why? After dying on the cross for our sins, giving us salvation and giving us eternal life, does God not deserve our best in worship? I know He does. When we come to a worship service, we are there for an audience of One – the Lord. We are not there for anyone else, so why do we act as if we are?
Reflection Assignment: When you go to your church for worship, worship as the psalmist reminds us. Don’t hold back. Don’t worry what others think because you are not there for them. Praise the Lord with all your heart. When the sermon is preached, ask yourself, “Lord, what is the lesson You want me to learn from this?
Scripture To Meditate On: Psalm 48:1, How great is the LORD, how deserving of praise” (NLT).
Prayer To Pray: “Dear Lord, please forgive me when I do not give You my best and my all in worship. I am here just for You and You only. Show me what lessons I need to learn from You and Your Word so that I might honor and obey You. I love You Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
I love you Southside! – Pastor Kelly
